Long Term Secured Loans
When you attempt to get any sort of credit, whether it is a credit or store card, a loan or a mortgage, for example, it will be necessary for you to undergo a credit check by the company that you are approaching for credit.
A credit check allows a loan provider to investigate your financial history, past and present, including whether you settle your debts on time, make late payments, or have missed payments. A credit check also presents any outstanding debts and any records of County Court Judgements (CCJ’s) and additional failures.
This offers the creditor a picture of what sort of risk you present if they determine to give you a loan - and the probability of getting the loan paid back! Naturally, nobody wants to give money to someone who won't pay it back on time or not at all! This checking practice is referred to as credit scoring.
There are several agencies who compile this data concerning you - the two principle ones are Equifax and Experian.
When you are making a decision about taking out credit, get hold of a copy of the credit report first of all. This will enable you to examine if all the information included in it is accurate and query anything that is not right. For instance, even only a little bit of wrong information - say your file notes an unpaid debt that has been settled - could mean the difference between getting accepted for credit - or not.
In order to obtain a copy of your record you can approach a credit record agency. You will be charged a small fee (around £2) and a copy will be sent to you for your perusal.
Make sure that your credit record records you on the electoral roll - if not, this will have a harmful consequence for your credit score. Also, financial "associations" - where maybe someone else who lives with you or lived at your address at one time has a low credit rating - will affect your ability to get any credit.
If you notice anything that is not correct on your credit record, make contact, in writing, with the organisation who has included incorrect details concerning you, and send out a copy to the credit reference agency too.
